Recap on Free Arts Day at HVCCA

Free Arts Day was celebrated countywide in Westchester and the HVCCA featured a series of events that gathered visitors of all ages for the occasion.

A docent tour led by Livia Straus, Director of the HVCCA, highlighted the current exhibition’s major works and curatorial vision.

Educational programs conducted by Jo-Ann Brody and Elisa Pritzker revisited the themes of Peekskill Project V. Focusing on ideas the artist used in her own work, Elisa Pritzker ‘s workshop was modeled after her “Eclectica Store” installation.

Guiding her group through viewing of the main gallery, Jo-Ann Brody invited participants to create their own works in response to selected art in the museum show.

“Jean-Michel Basquiat: The Radiant Child”, a documentary detailing the life of Basquiat explored his beginnings, rapid rise to fame, and early death at 27 in 1988. There to discuss his story was the film’s director, Tamra Davis, whose intimate interviews and personal history with the artist gave us a glimpse into the mind of Jean-Michel Basquiat.
